Diesel DPF Cleaner: How Cataclean Restores Performance and Fuel Efficiency
Diesel DPF Cleaner: How Cataclean Restores Performance and Fuel Efficiency
Dial up your diesel’s performance. If you’ve owned a modern diesel long enough, you’ve felt it—the truck starts running hotter, regens get more frequent, throttle response softens, and before long, that Check Engine Light reminds you something’s not right. The truth is, today’s diesel emissions systems work hard—and they clog up just as fast. The good news? Cleaning it out doesn’t have to mean tearing into your truck or writing a massive repair bill.
For a decade, Holley has distributed Cataclean’s patented, EPA-approved fuel- and exhaust-system cleaner in the U.S. and Canada. Cataclean is the industry-leading product of its kind for gasoline engines and, thanks to an extended, exclusive agreement signed last year, Holley will introduce new Cataclean products and formulations across the North American market.
Expanding the Cataclean Lineup for Diesel Owners
As a first step, the Cataclean product range is expanding with the launch of Cataclean Diesel Exhaust System & DPF Cleaner, a diesel-specific, emissions-system treatment that has been engineered to clean and restore performance across today’s complex diesel exhaust platforms.

“Whether you’re a diesel performance enthusiast or a commercial diesel-vehicle driver, or you choose a diesel for environmental or budget-conscious reasons, Cataclean Diesel will clean emissions components and restore lost fuel efficiency,” says Louie Escobedo, senior product manager for Cataclean. “Owners can be confident that their diesel engine is running cleanly and efficiently, maintaining peak performance, and protected against costly shop repairs.”
Designed for trucks, commercial vehicles, and older diesel-engine applications facing buildup and regeneration challenges, Cataclean Diesel helps to clear soot deposits in the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), catalytic converter, turbocharger, O₂ sensors, injectors, and cylinder heads. Without requiring invasive or costly service, Cataclean Diesel delivers measurable performance improvements: up to a 25% improvement in DPF performance, for example, based on controlled testing conditions, and up to a 50% reduction in hydrocarbon emissions, according to laboratory results.
The improved fuel economy and overall system efficiency can benefit all types of diesel vehicles, from late-model, HD trucks like the Ford F-Series Super Duty, Ram 2500/3500 and Silverado/Sierra HD, to diesel Sprinter vans, to pre-emissions-era diesel trucks, muscle diesel trucks, and Euro diesel sedans and wagons.
More Than an Injector Cleaner
“Diesel owners respect diesel-specific products to help protect their high-value engines,” adds Escobedo. “Cataclean Diesel is much more capable than an everyday injector cleaner or system cleaner. It will clean the full fuel and exhaust system, from front to back.”
Cataclean Diesel’s proprietary blend of chemical components is designed to tackle soot buildup throughout the fuel and emissions systems. It can stop frequent Check Engine Light activation due to emissions-system inefficiency, and benefit drivers in short-trip, low-speed driving, where the regeneration cycle cannot engage to clean out a clogged DPF filter. Meanwhile, the Cataclean Diesel formulation will help drivers of older vehicles to address the increased fuel consumption and emissions of an aging diesel system.
Developed in the UK, where diesels are commonplace, Cataclean Diesel will be available in a 16-ounce bottle for regular, preventative maintenance treatments every quarter or 5,000 miles. Three-liter or five-liter jugs cater for commercial or bulk applications, while an available twin-pack of 16-ounce bottles takes care of deep cleaning and buildup removal for larger diesel trucks boasting fuel tanks of 25 gallons or more.
Simple DIY Maintenance That Delivers Results
Cataclean Diesel is a simple, DIY maintenance product that makes it easy to improve powertrain cleanliness and performance. You add the appropriate dose to a quarter-tank of diesel, drive the vehicle for 15-20 minutes (it’s helpful to include some high-speed use to build temperature in the emissions system), and refuel when necessary.
“Treating the engine with Cataclean Diesel is a cost-effective way to clean out the DPF filter, fuel-injection system, and turbos,” adds Escobedo, “making sure that any recirculated exhaust gasses and soot are not making their way back through that system and causing deposits that can be extremely damaging and very expensive to repair.”

Diesel power and performance enthusiasts can also take confidence from the fact that the new product is endorsed by Edge Products, a specialist in monitoring and performance tuning products specifically engineered for diesel vehicles.
“Many of Edge’s monitoring systems track vehicle data related to the areas Cataclean is designed to address,” he notes. “We share a focus on performance, fuel efficiency, efficient operation, and emissions-system health. Customers who have installed Edge products like the best-selling Insight CTS3 in-cab monitor can track changes in key operating data after a Cataclean Diesel treatment. We think it’s a great relationship.”
Keep your eyes peeled, Cataclean Diesel will be available through all the usual Cataclean outlets, including retailers O’Reilly Auto Parts, Advance Auto, AutoZone, and Walmart. It will also be sold through online and warehouse distributors who carry Edge emissions-related products, as well as through installers and shops who service diesel engines with DPF regen problems and troubleshoot emissions issues or performance complaints. The retail price is identical to the original Cataclean gasoline product, at $27.95 for a 16-ounce bottle.
